Our Sawdust Sirens are old style acoustic amplifiers for your new phone's speaker. Simply put your phone in and have a listen.

The Kent family were prominent among the hundreds of residents of Calais, VT in the 19th century. Remember Kent (yes, that was his name) moved there from Rehoboth, MA in 1798, part of a migration north to find new and better land and opportunities. The following year, Remember had a son Remember, who in turn had a son named Prentiss in 1834. Prentiss was Atwater’s dad; Atwater was born in VT in 1873.

This Model L Atwater Kent Radio Speaker Horn was originally manufactured in Philadelphia in the 1920’s. It would have had a cast iron base with a speaker driver. It has its original brown label and is married to a reclaimed oak base. This particular horn has lots of patina with some paint flaking and rust. We kept it this way to honor its history. Calais stands approximately 17” tall with a 14.25” bell. The whole piece is 9.75” deep x 14.25” wide x 19.5” tall. The base is finished with Betty’s Board Butter (beeswax & mineral oil). You may want to re-oil the base occasionally. Each Siren is signed on the bottom of the base.

If your phone has stereo options you may want to play around with mono and stereo settings to see which you prefer.
