RCA was created just after World War 1, some would say to monopolize the radio industry. The US Navy wanted to ensure that the British Marconi Company wouldn’t control global radio development so went along with General Electric’s idea create a company that merged their interests with competitors Westinghouse, AT&T, and United Fruit (yes, a banana boat company that was involved because of their ship-to-shore radios).

RCA hired David Sarnoff, a former Marconi office assistant turned manager, as General Manager. Sarnoff ended up declaring independence for RCA from the conglomerate of other companies, creating the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), buying the Victor Talking Machine Company, and finally becoming president of RCA in 1930, a couple of months into the Great Depression.

The Radiola UZ-1325 loudspeaker was manufactured by the Radio Corporation of American and utilized a horn manufactured by the Miller Rubber Company (as did all of the upright horns manufactured by RCA). The UZ-1325 was introduced for the 1924 Christmas season and was the last horn marketed by RCA; by the end of 1926, RCA stopped selling horn speakers and moved entirely to cone type speakers.

This rubber radio speaker horn stands approximately 26” tall with a 12” bell x 8.5” deep)with its original metal label. The base is made from a reclaimed ash beam and finished with Betty’s Board Butter (Beeswax & mineral oil.) You may wish to re-oil your base occasionally. Each siren is signed on the bottom of the base.

If your phone has stereo options you may want to play around with mono and stereo settings to see which you prefer.
