Siren #328: Underdog, $325
Our Sawdust Sirens are old style acoustic amplifiers for your new phone's speaker. Simply put your phone in and have a listen.
We believe this horn is from an Edison Amberola 30 cylinder phonograph. Introduced in 1915, after Edison rebuilt his factories following the devastating 1914 fire, the Amberola 30 was the least expensive of Edison’s phonographs, selling for $30. The horn was an upside-down version of previous external horns that were considered obtrusive and dust-catching, not at all in harmony with traditional Victorian decor. Mounted inside a cabinet with a grill on the front, the metal horn curled around the back to attach to the stylus on top of the cylinder.
Underdog is approximately 12” tall x 8” wide x 12” deep with a 8"“ bell. The recalimed ash base is finished with Betty’s Board Butter (beeswax and mineral oil). You may wish to re-oil your base occasionally. Each Siren is signed on the bottom of the base.
If your phone has stereo options you may want to play around with mono and stereo settings to see which you prefer. Please let us know if you have a plus sized phone.
