The Great Depression led to a serious decline in sales for Atwater Kent; he refused to compromise on quality, and people couldn’t afford his more expensive radios. He closed his factory in 1936, left the radio business, but kept the fortune he had made. In 1937, he donated $25,000 to the city of Philadelphia to restore Betsy Giscom Ross’s house, which was in need of major restoration.

This is a Model H Atwater Kent Radio Speaker Horn with a green logo. The base is made of reclaimed willow oak and walnut. this particular horn was made for an iPhone plus. Giscom lives with our dear friend and Eco Artist, Stacy Levy.
