Ash Crack (Photos 1-8): Our neighbor’s Ash on Park Ave. was getting so large that he could barely get around the house, so he decided it was time to get rid of it.  Knowing that we’re big fans of large crotches of any species, he saved this large 4-way crotch for us.  Crotches that go 4 ways make some really interesting grain patterns.  The smallest leg of the crotch cracked while drying, so we filled it with epoxy resin. This large turned Ash bowl is approximately 17-1/4” to 17-3/4” in diameter x 4” to 4-1/4” deep.

Whorly Bowl (photos 9-10): This bowl was turned from a fallen Ash branch on the 200 block of Park Ave. in Swarthmore, PA. The tree guys knew we were interested in fun stuff to turn and saved this burl for us. Whorly Burl has an abundance of sweet swirls in the grain and one wonderful hole near the bottom of the bowl. Approximately 8.25” x 8” in diameter x 3.75” deep.

Jasper (photo 11): This ash bowl was turned from a fallen branch from a tree where several of the ensemble members of Hedgerow Theater reside in Rose Valley, PA. This bowl is named after Founding Artistic Director, Jasper Deeter. This bowl is approximately 6.25”- 6.75” in diameter x 2.75” deep.

Deeter (photo 12): This ash bowl was turned from a fallen branch from a tree where several of the ensemble members of Hedgerow Theater Company reside in Rose Valley, PA. This bowl is named after Founding Artistic Director, Jasper Deeter. This bowl is approximately 5.5”- 6” in diameter x 2.5” deep with a stable hairline crack on the side.

Fraxinus (photo 13): This bowl is approximately 4.75-5" in diameter x 2.5-3" deep with a stable hairline crack on the side.

Oleeae (photo 14): This bowl is approximately 4.75”- 5” in diameter x 1.75- 2. 1/8” deep with a stable hairline crack on the side.

The Other Cheek (photo 15-16): You may recall back in late summer 2019 we introduced Ash Crack, a spectacular bowl turned from our neighbor’s Ash crotch. The other half of the Ash crotch sat beside the garage waiting for the right opportunity, which apparently was last month when we decided to see what it would look like when we turned the other cheek. Nearly 2 years of sitting in the mud allowed for some awesome decay, creating spalting patterns overlaid on the already intense grain of this multi-dimensional crotch. This bowl is approximately 14.5-14.75” in diameter x 3.75” deep with a few stable cracks filled with black resin near the knot on the bottom of the bowl.

All our bowls are carefully sanded and finished with Betty’s Board Butter (beeswax & food safe mineral oil). Clean with a damp cloth. Dry immediately. Re-oil occasionally. Movement in the wood is considered normal.
